Couple more screws in my 2003 comfort but no hassle. getting the radio cage back in was a pain for me but once I realised that the harness needed to be fed back into the recess (which you can reach under and feed as you slide back in) no problem. Only problem now is to find the blown bulb in the heater controls but, as you show, this is easy to take out so it can wait for another day.

Incidentally, my reason for doing the job is slightly different. I need to “disable” the Electronic / Immobiliser warning as its driving me crazy. I had an ECU fault which a local garage fixed (its a long story). But to remedy my car cutting out all the time, they had to bypass one of the terminals of the ECU as it was causing the Fuel pump relay to switch off. Hence now, I have the warning bulb intermittently on / off. The car is running fine but I will not be able to trade the car with the visual fault nagging in the background………………

I have a 2004 diesel which was either built in Belgium or Germany (they did them at both). The only bit I broke was the ashtray as it didn’t seem to have a screw at the bottom?? I have now secured it with a small self tapping screw which doesn’t look too bad! If I had realised how the dash comes away from the heater panel on the uk model, I wouldn’t have killed the ashtray. The uk model has 2 securing clips at the top of the heater panel which can be undone without removing the panel. One last thing – just to be a show off! I didn’t have any screws left over. Thankyou very much for your detailed pictures.

Made it so much easier to complete the job. In fact, it made it possible! Ended up with a few extra screws…
The stereo very nearly got the better of me. Was quite difficult to get out, took out the glove box ( which was mentioned on another site as being helpful, wasn’t really) ended up getting dash off with the radio still in place (only possible as there was a piece of dash missing below the radio)
While I had it open, also replaced the gear transmission (automatic). The gear selector switch had broken and is not replaceable. Requires entire gear shift. Thankfully found one in a wreckers and was a relatively easy replacement.
Anyway, many thanks for your detailed photos and commentary. Very much appreciated.

Yes, I can imagine some people trying to reef things out of your dash, but not knowing how they are supposed to operate.
